Looking vertically up into the canopy of two mature Beech trees stood close to each other in early Autumn The latin name for these 2 trees is Fagus sylvatica and they grow up to 40 metres tall and have smooth grey bark Beeches create a deep litter of decay resistant dark brown leaves which discourages ground plant growth They are common throughout Western and central Europe These were pictured in North Dorset England UK Britain
