Puma (Felis concolor) footprints in dry riverbed Parque National Monte Leon Atlantic coast Santa Cruz Province Southern Patagonia


Monte León National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Monte León) established in 2004 on a former 165,000 acre, about 67,000ha sheep ranch in the east of Santa Cruz Province is the latest and most significant attempt to pre-serve the steppe’s unique flora and fauna. It is arid grass-land typical of the Patagonian steppe, beautified by 40 km of Atlantic 3,000km of coast with breeding colonies of 60,000 pairs of Magellanic penguins Spheniscus magellanicus and numerous marine rock cormorants Phalacrocorax magellanicus.
