It will be rememberedthat Chicago suffered severely from a visitation of cholera in 1832, duringthe progress of the Black Hawk war. In that year the cholera broke outamong United States troops brought there by Gen. Winfield Scott, and re-sulted in a mortality of eighty-eight soldiers. It was a wise provision of thenew City of Milwaukee to create a board of health to prevent its possiblelodgement among its inhabitants.
