He after-ward learned the business of a druggist and phar-macist in Worcester. He began to study nudicinein the office of Dr. A. P. Richardson, of graduated from the Harvard Medical School in1878. In the following August he began to practicehis profession in Clinton, Massachusetts. Almostfrom the start he received liberal patronage and soonhad a very extensive practice, not only in Clintonbut in all the adjoining towns. Ever ready to sym-pathize and advise the afthcted and suffering, he be-came popular wherever he was known. He was notonly a successful physician and skillful surgeon, buthis tact and excellent judgment were quickly rec- t*^^.
