John Herbert Dillinger (1903-1934) was an infamous bank robber and criminal who led a gang during the Great Depression era. Born in Indianapolis, he was jailed for robbery in 1924 and learned the tricks of bank heists while incarcerated. After being paroled in 1933, Dillinger embarked on a crime spree, robbing banks across several states with his violent gang. He gained notoriety for his daring robberies and prison escapes, including carving a fake gun to break out of the Crown Point jail in 1934. He was dubbed "Public Enemy No. 1" by the FBI
