There is no fruit that has a more promising future in thisState than the lemon. It is a tree that fruits well, blooms allthe year round, and is ripening its fruit in every month of theyear. The best varieties should only be planted—such as willundergo the curing process. A marketable lemon should not be large, but of mediumsize, sweet rind, and strong acid. The common seedling lemon does not pay to grow; itskeeping qualities are very poor; if put to curing, as soon asit leaves the process will be found to be worthless, as almostevery lemon will show signs of decay. Therefore it cannot beexpected that lemons of inferior quality will pay their culture. The varieties described under this head are of foreign origin,and are recommended (excepting the sweet lemon) as beingmarketable, prolific bearers, good keepers, and such as thefruit growers should plant for profit.
