The Palio of Siena (Palio di Siena) is a competition between the districts of the city of Siena. It is a medieval horse race which takes place twice a year: on July 2 there is the Palio di Provenzano (in honor of the Virgin of Provenzano) and on 16 August the Palio dell'Assunta (in honor of Assumption of the Virgin).
