This being the case, is it not very important that we improve our flocks, as it certainly costs no more to grow a thoroughbred than a common "dung-hill," and no one will question the results. "We offer only one breed, and that is the one that is every- where acknowledged to be the best for all purposes. PLYMOUTH These are the acknowledged champions as an all round, general purpose fowl. They have stood the test and are still on the round of popularity. We have a dozen or more Poultry Cat- alogues before us, and they invariably give the Plymouth Rocks the most prominence, and no doubt sell more eggs than of any other two breeds. They are very hardy, easy reared and ma- ture early; sooner ready for market than any other fowl. They are good egg producers, excel- lent mothers, of gentle disposition, a fine farm fowl; also bear confinement well. Full grown hens weigh from seven to nine pounds and roosters from ten to twelve. They have fine plumage; body color grayish-white, each feather regularly crossed with parallel bars of bluish-black, pro- ducing the effect of a bluish tinged plumage. They have clean, bright yellow legs and beaks; combs and wattles moderate size and not liable to become frozen.
