People clash with Indian government forces in Srinagar on 17 October 2018, following the killing of two rebels and a civilian in an early morning gun battle between militants and the Indian police during which two rebels, one civilian, and a police officer were killed. The rebels were identified as Lashkar-e-Toiba top commander, Mehraj Bangroo, and his associate, Fahad Waza. According to police sources a cordon and search operation was launched at Fateh Kadal in Srinagar in the morning which turned into a gunfight
