Charles IV the Fair, King of France, 1294-1328. He wears a fur hat, gold silk robe lined with squirrel fur, cracows or poulaines, while his horse has a caparison with gold fleurs de lys lined in scarlet. Handcoloured copperplate drawn and engraved by Leopold Massard from French Costumes from King Clovis to Our Days, Massard, Mifliez, Paris, 1834.
