An 1885 obelisk monument erected in the Lakewood Cemetery by the Minneapolis Head Miller's Association, in memory of those who lost their lives in the Great Flour Mill Explosion on May 2, 1878 in Minneapolis, MInnesota. The names on the monument are: E. H. Grundman, George A. Burbank, Charles Henning, Fred A. Merrill, August Schmidt, Henry Hicks, Patrick Judd, William Leslie, Edwin E. Merrill, Ole P. Schei, Clark Wilbur, John E. Rosenius, Peter Hogberg, Jacob V. Rhodes, Charles Kimball, Walter Savage, John Boyer, and Cyrus K. Ewing. The quotation by the Scottish philospher Thomas Carlyle at the base states, "Labor wide as the earth has its summit in heavan." The monument was designed and built by the local firm Sullivan and Faruham. It is made of white granite quarried from Barre, Vermont.
