While in England he exhibited an immense floral design, "Rock of Ages," at one of the fairs and secured a certificate of '' Very high- ly commended.'' The piece was not for competition. Felix Alberts, of Henry P. Neun's flower store, exhibited nine floral pieces at the New York state fair, Syracuse, and won eight firsts and one third. The work shown consisted of funeral pieces and wedding bouquets. The prizes amounted to about $107. '' Boch- ester-made" means quality. Evidently our designers are "doing it" for Rochester. Morris Cohen, of Wertheimer Bros., New York, called on the trade last week. He was showing a large line of novelties. One of the main features is the new gold-lace ehiflfon, which is effective for decorative purposes. Other visitors for the week included Robert Greenlaw, of 8. S. Pennock- Meehan Co., Philadelphia; Mr, Snyder, of the Edwards Folding Box Co., Phila- delphia; A. G. Ford, of A. Herrmann, New York, and Wm. B. Lake, of Phila- delphia. Just as a hobby, a Charlotte gentle- man has grown eighty-two varieties of dahlias this year, with success. Dah- lias are hard things to grow around here.
