Occasionally the flowers on a potato plant produce a fruit which resembles a cherry tomato. The fruit contains up to 300 seeds which can be used commercially to produce new cultivars. The fruit contains solanine, a poisonous alkaloid, and should not be eaten. This is the same toxin present in potatoes that have gone green due to exposure to light.
