09/04/19 Almost half-a-million pounds of funding has been secured to transform one of only two remaining wrought-iron trestle viaducts in England. The Bennerley Viaduct closed in 1968 and was earmarked for demolition but its iron construction made it expensive to dismantle. Work to renew the wooden decking and create a footpath and cycle path will take 18 months. The viaduct is a grade II listed structure dating from 1877 spanning the Erewash Valley for 440 meters (approximately 1/4 mile) between Cotmanhay in Derbyshire and Awsworth in Nottinghamshire.
