It is not the purpose of the main catalogue to duplicatethe work accomplished in Pooles Index, Bibliographieder Deutschen Zeitschriften-Litteratur, Jordells Reper-toire Bibliographique des principales Revues Francaises,The Engineering Index, The Cumulative Index, orThe A. L. A. Literary Index. These and other indexeswill be found on the adjoining reference desks, as well as inthe alcoves open to the Catalogue Division. 241 As the reclassification and revision of old entries proceeds,chapter by chapter, it is the intention to supplement themain* dictionary catalogue by special classed catalogues. These may in some classes be mere shelf catalogues, giv-ing only one entry for each work, arranged in the order inwhich the books are classed on the shelves. In certain im-portant classes they may be carried farther. The classifiedcatalogue of bibliographies contains not only titles of inde-pendent bibliographies, but also of important lists appendedto other works or contained in serial publications. Finally, it is fully recognized by the library that next inimportance to an adequate exhibit of its own resources,comes the ability to supply information as to the resourcesof other libraries.
