The American Florist. 837 Hammond's Thrip Juice No. 2 For the Destruction of Sucking Insects and Caterpillars, Slugs, Aphides, Red Spider and Mealy Bug. In 1883, twenty-nine years ago, we made'this preparation for the use of a grape grower, Mr. Floyd Quick, of Fishkill, N. Y. The Thrip is one of the most bothersome of insect pests, because the moment the plant is touched, off goes the Thrip. Thrip Juice No. 2 is diluted for general use thirty to forty times with water. The late Isaac Wood, Florist, of Fishkill, N. Y., used it for Mealy Bug and Red Spider. This article was purchased by a druggist in Jacksonville, Florida, the late Dr. James A. Farley, who was Secretary of the Board of Trade. He found it effective against the Orange Scale. Upon trial in Florida we changed the formula, making another grade, which is Thrip Juice No. 1, and is arsenicated. This was tried out in Lake County, Florida, twenty-five years ago, and has been in use there yearly ever since. This Thrip Juice No. 1, by the growers, is used with a very great dilution. It is exported to the West Indies. No. 2 Thrip Juice has been in use for twenty-nine years. The past two years there has been a steadily increasing demand, as it is becoming better known. If any Florist wishes to test Thrip Juice No. 2, and will pay the expressage, we will send him a sample for trial, because we know there is "No Magic in Killing Bugs," and it is the general average of success that proves the practical lasting value of any article.
