Le Bal des Ardents. At a masquerade six men, including King Charles 6th, dressed as wild woodmen in costumes made of resin and flax. A spark from a drunken guest set the costumes on fire and the men burned like torches. The King was slightly apart from the group and the Duchess of Berry was able to cover him with her skirt. Four of the men died in the fire, with only the King and another (who jumped into a vat of wine) survived.
