The series of hangings titled "Port de Mer", the cartoons for which were designed by Kerchove & Campion, was woven several times at Beauvais under the direction of Noël-Antoine Mérou (1722-1734). Badin shows that the Ports de mer series comprises 2 sets of hangings: one composed of 6 panels, around 1723, followed by another integrating 4 of the initial hanging, in 1732. This panel may have been one of the Ports de mer series' scenes designed by Kerchove & Campion & woven in de Mérou workshop at Beauvais around 1723. Badin highlights a November 3, 1732 inventory listing a Port de mer piece as painted by sieur Le Pape. This leads one to believe that there may have been more painters involved in the Ports de mer series. The circumstances in which the series was created remains unclear & there is a paucity of information regarding the specific scenes of the series, according to Jules Guiffrey (introduction for Badin).
