The great Civil War : a history of the late rebellion, with biographical sketches of leading statesmen also distinguished naval and military commanders, etc. . screet protest of Mr. Lyons in behalf of theminority : Mr. Miles, of South Carolina, said that the whole coim-try had literally rung with the cry for the onward move-ment ; the press had been loud in, he might almost say, denunciations of our officers, for not pursuing an aggress-ive policy. And now that it was commenced, thereought to be some general expression of opinion, with thegreatest warmth of which we are capable, of our co-opera-tion in pursuing the enemy to his own confines, and withstrong arms pluck fortune from the enemys soil. Let Congress, if need be, panderto public opinion, if they will so term it, but carry thewar into the enemys country, let them bleed, and letthem feel the horrors of war. Why then oppose this res-olution ? Is this just ? is this generous to the brave sol-diers who are fighting our battles ? ^:. X fe?>>iV ., .1 m S%i^
