A core removed from a telescope mirror blank made from fused quartz. The bubbles visible in the core are formed as a result of the fusing process and do not effect the quality of the blank, the surface of which is ground, polished and aluminised before use. Photographed at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona.
