HMT Aragon sinking, 30 December 1917
From the Great War published in 1918 photographer uncredited. Britain's first defensively armed merchant ship was sunk by a u boat, many of the crew were rescued by the destroyer HMS attack (and some by HMT Points Castle), but HMS attack was also torpedoed (or possibly mined) and sunk later. In all 610 died including Captain Bateman.
