Spiral galaxy NGC 2841. Optical image of the spiral galaxy NGC 2841, which contains a weak type of active galactic nucleus. Such an area is known as a LINER (low-ionization narrow emission line region). NGC 2841 is about 130,000 light years across and lies around 46 million light years away. NGC 2841 has had a history of supernova explosions within it. This image was produced using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
