Letter from Jefferson to Franklin. 1776 letter written by Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Franklin, asking for suggestions on drafting the US Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776), and the third President of the United States (1801-1809). Franklin (1706-1790) was a US scientist, inventor and statesman, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
