Sutures being removed from an oesophagectomy scar on the abdomen of a 62 year old female patient 12 days after surgery for oesophagus (gullet) cancer. This surgery removed the cancerous part of the oesophagus. Depending on how large a piece is removed, the stomach is either moved upwards to allow the two healthy ends of the oesophagus to be reattached, or the oesophagus is replace with part of the large intestine.
