These improvements must be regarded with great satis-faction, because it has long been evident to engineers that been let to theJFrench Sociite des Forges at Chantiers dela Mediterranre, the price to be f 1,904,000. This firm was the only one whose plans provided for acentral armored casemate extending above the armoredbelt to the upper deck, and protecting the machinery andboilers, an arrangement which has been very generallyadopted for vessels of a similar class in the French Navy.
