No one ought to failIn growing it. No one need fail. It has been grownsuccessfully in every state in the union and in some partsof nearly every county in every state. We venture theassertion that Alfalfa can be grown on 99 per cent, ofthe farms in the United States. Alfalfa will grow on soils having a good under drain-age, or where the subsoil is porous. A good crop of Al-falfa is most easily established when following suchcrops as soja beans, cow peas or clover. A crop of crim-son or burr clover plowed under will put soil in an idealcondition for Alfalfa. Preparation of the Soil—Break the land deep as pos-sible, using a two-horse plow, then disc harrow bothways, after which go over the field with a subsoil plow,smoothing and harrowing the field again.
