Automated DNA sequencing. A technician sets up a continuous flow cell containing samples for automated DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequencing. Robots are used to increase the speed and accuracy of the repetitive tasks involved in mapping and sequencing DNA. By studying the sequence of genes in the DNA (the genetic code ), researchers hope to understand which parts of DNA have what specific purpose. Photographed at Genoscope National Sequencing Centre, University of Evry, France.
