Cryotherapy research. Athlete being examined during research to determine the therapeutic effects of the cold on an athlete's recovery after exercise. After a strenuous physical fitness test the athlete spends time in a cryotherapy chamber. Cryotherapy is a medical therapy technique that uses low temperatures. It is most commonly used to decrease cellular metabolism, inflammation, pain and spasm, in order to promote healing. Cryogenic chamber therapy (seen here) is a form of whole body cryotherapy that places the patient in a specially designed chamber for a short period.
