Hometown signs have been posted for years by travelers from around the world along the Alaska Highway at Watson Lake in the Yukon territory of Canada. The first sign went up in 1942 at Mile Marker 635 and the collection has grown to more than 72,000. There were only a few hundred signs when this photograph was made in 1967. Nowadays they cover several acres in an area called the Sign Post Forest. Historical photo.
