A series of. exhaust ports are also arranged in a similar manner andempty into a main exhaust pipe. By this arrangementall but one of the buckets of the piston are kept con-stantly filled with live steam, which discharges as itreaches its exhaust port. The piston is made steam tightby the use of packing rings which are held in the cylinderand pressed against the piston by means of side screws,permitting easy adjustment from the outer side of thecylinder. Reed & Sons, proprietors of the Tramway Rail Pittsburg, who have been having their rails tested forsome months, report themselves much pleased with theirsuccess.
