The park is named after the Tarangire River, which is the primary source of water for the wildlife living in the area, especially during the dry season. Tarangire National Park is part of the larger Tarangire ecosystem, which extends beyond the park's boundaries and includes other protected areas. The park is characterized by its striking landscape, featuring vast savannahs, dense acacia woodlands, and distinctive baobab trees. Tarangire is known for its large herds of African elephants, which can be seen meandering through the baobab-dotted landscape. Other wildlife species found in the park include wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, impalas, gazelles, greater kudus, elands, leopards, lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, and even African pythons. Tarangire National Park is home to a diverse array of bird species, boasting over 550 different types of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts. The park's varying vegetation zones provide suitable habitats for an array of flora and fauna, contributing to its rich biodiversity.
