The Clovis stele commemorates the battle of Tolbiacum (Zuelpich) of the Franks against the Alemanni in the year 496. The stele stands at the place where the battle of Zülpich between the Franks and the Alemanni took place in 496. In this battle Clovis, the king of the Franks, is said to have taken the vow to become a Christian in the event of victory. The stele was designed by the artist Ulrich Rückriem.
