The Asian glossy starling (Aplonis panayensis) is a common garden bird of the tropics. Its plumage is a very dark iridescent turquoise colour. Its eyes are prominently red. An average adult is about 20 cm long. The birds move in flocks and can be an annoyance as they can strip a tree clean on its fruits very quickly. In addition to fruits, they feed on snails and other invertebrates. They can also be found feeding of shellfish by the sea at low tide.
