This avenue is joar excellence the avenue of the city,with one terminus at the rivers edge, and the other reach-ing in a straight line for an indefinite distance into thecountry. Of an unusual width, and with an ever in-creasing number of the most elegant stores and residencesalong its route, it is probably excelled by no avenue onthe continent. It stands as a type of progressive Ameri-can ideas and is eminently modern and stylish. 4. THK ANI» SAlLoRS Returning to this avenue, and going one block north-wards, you will see on the left at the corner of GrandRiver Avenue and Griswold Street, the imposing andelegant building of the Young Mens Christian Associa-tion, one of the very finest structures of the kind in theworld, and it will well repay you to inspect its interior ar-rangements. One block further north at the head ofClifford Street is one of the best of the fire engine houses. Taking the Woodward Avenue line of street cars, andproceeding a few blocks northward, you will see on eitherside the Grand Circus Parks; their fountains and theseats inviting to rest and meditation.
