Both the ears and forehead are well covered with wool, which forms a protection from the flies. As mutton producers they cannot be equalled either in quantity or quality, the meat being well marbled, juicy and tender even in the aged sheep. The bone is small, body thick and cyl- indrical, the ears wide apart. COTSWOLD SHEEP. In standing before a typical Cotswold you will see that invariably he carries his head high enough to bring the lowest point of the eye in line with the back ; this indicates vigor, hardi- ness, strength of bone and muscle,—essentials to rapid and economical meat production. They mature rapidly and produce a large amount of mutton, the (luality of which is con- sidered superior to that of the Leicester, the tallow being less abundant, with a larger development of muscle and flesh.
