On thefirst of May he set sail accompanied by his son and a crew oftwelve men; and after various adventures, through icy seasand regions intensely cold, during which he touched at Green-land and coasted along the island of Spitzbergen, he arrivedhome September 15th, of the same year. On the 22d of April, 1608, Hudson made his second voy-age for the Muscovy Company, with his son and a crew ofthirteen men. This time he took tlie route formerly attemptedby Willoughby and Barentz, to find a passage by the north-east to the pole. This second voyage was as unsuccessful asthe first, and he arrived in England August 26, 1608. N
