C, Issue. 1 Alma® Wiseman. 2 John® W. Wiseman, died. SECTION VI. Kev. William Andrew Wood was a native of Third Creek con-gregation, in Rowan county, N. C.; was born Xovcmber 28,1831. His parents were of that sturdy Scotch-Irish stock thatcame from Ireland by way of Pennsylvania, and settled in XorthCarolina about the middle of the eighteenth century. His father,William B. Wood, was one of the substantial farmers of Rowancounty, and was a ruling elder in Third Creek Presb3terianChurch. Dr. Woods mother, Margaret Knox, was a lady of piety andrefinement, but of a delicate physical constitution, which was. REV. v/M. A- Wood, d. d., statesViLLe, N- c. Absalom Kxox axd Descendants. H>7 transmitted to her son, Dr. Wood. His grandmother was a Hall,a member of the family that gave to the clnirch the eininentEev. James Hall, D. D., of Revolutionary fame. In his youth,the subject of this sketch was for some time a pupil in the schoolof that celebrated teacher, Mr. Peter Stuart Xey, the mysteriousFrenchman, who is believed by many to have been the celebratedMarshal Xey, Napoleons favorite general. Later he Mas a pupilof j\Ir. Hugh R. Hall, at Bethany Church, which school had awide reputation in Rowan and Iredell counties, about the middleof the nineteenth century. He entered Davidson College in 1848, when only seventeenyears of age, graduated in 1852; was received under tlie care ofConcord Presbytery, as a candidate for the gospel ministry, inMay, 1854.
