Flushing Apparatus.—The objectof a flushing apparatus is the thoroughremoval of all adhering excreta fromthe sides of the fixture, and its propul-sion through and beyond the trap. Theflushing rim is connected with a supplypipe of about inches diameter,connected with the cistern. Throughthis pipe, the water is delivered wdth arush, and is spread out by the flushingrim in small jets against the sides ofthe bowl. With some forms of flushingcisterns, the flush continues as long asthe lever which opens the valve is helddown or until the cistern is emptiedcompletely.
