View NNE showing the Stones of Stenness stone circle, Orkney, Scotland, UK, standing within the remains of a circular earthwork henge monument. The flattened bank & ditch (cut 2m into solid rock) are visible on the near edge of the darker green grass. Four tall flagstones survive from a possible 12 set in a 30m diameter circle. There was a central hearth & settings of stones & wooden posts within the circle. Stenness, also known as the Temple of the Moon, is part of The Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.
