Since Juno we have had but two slight showers, the eflfect of which was dissipated by the sun in a few hours. All outdoor stock has suffered severely; gladioli and asters are almost a total failure, as are all outdoor flowers. Carnations that were planted out early came through in pretty good shape. Carnation plant- ing in the houses is done and the over- hauling of heating plants, boilers, etc., is well under way. State Fair Flower Show. , The West Michigan State Fair was held here last week. We had ideal weather and a successful show. In the floral department, Henry Smith and the Crabb & Hunter Floral Co. were the principal exhibitors, dividing most of the premiums between them, as follows: General collection of stove and greenhouse plants, not less than thirty varieties, Crabb & Hunter Floral Co., lirst; Henry Smith, becond.
