Grey sky view environmental veil Civil Justice Centre rising above the Crown Court. Crown Square, Spinningfields, Manchester, UK

The grey concrete Manchester Crown Court Building, refurbished in 2010, was built 1957-62 by Manchester City Architect, Leonard C. Howitt. Rising behind the Crown Court, the post-modern architecture Manchester Civil Justice Centre, part of the Spinningfields regeneration, was completed in 2007. An environmental veil, on the east side, seen here, controls the warmth from the sun an maximises natural daylight. Cantilvered 'fingers' overhang the ends of the building.
