ATLANTIC OCEAN (Sept. 11, 2018) Chief Boatswain's Mate (select) Kenneth Midland, left, holds the ensign as Chief Boatswain's Mate (select) Emeka Igwe salutes during a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on the mess deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Naval Forces Northern Command deployed Kearsarge, along with embarked elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Expeditionary Strike Group 2 command element, to be positioned to provide Defense Support to Civil Authorities from the sea in response to Hurricane Florence, should support be requested.
