Spain, Seville, Tower of Gold (Torre del Oro)

The Torre del Oro (12th century) originally belonged to the Almohad city 12th century fortifications and served to control the entrance of ships into the harbor. Inside the 12-sided tower a hexagonal stairwell leads over three floors to a platform surmounted by battlements, from which rises a small dome-shaped structure. The traditional name of the tower comes from the shining golden glaze tiles that originally adorned its upper section.
