The Dachau death train consisted of nearly forty railcars containing 5000 prisoners who were evacuated from Buchenwald on April 7, 1945. The train arrived in Dachau on the afternoon of April 28 with the bodies of between 2,000 and 3,000 prisoners who had died during the journey. The train with the bodies was found by the US army when it was freed the next day. Although it was a forced labour camp and there were no gas chambers there, brutality and violent punishments were the norm. Here US Soldiers force members of the Hitler Youth to look at the appalling scene.
