Panmunjeom, Ikonos satellite image. Panmunjeom (blue area towards upper left), also known as Truce Village, is on the North-South Korea border. It is the site where the armistice that ended the Korean war was signed in 1953. The village is at the centre of the demilitarized zone. The demarcation line, the border of the two countries, that lies roughly along the 38th parallel, dissects the row of 7 blue buildings in Panmunjeom. It is in these buildings that talks between the two countries are held. This region called the joint defensive area is policed by both countries, with the respective armies heavily guarding their own borders. Taken on the 3 November 2000.
