Eastwind - Dew Line Radar Station 1956. Shown here is one of the new radar towers built during the summer of 1956 at a DEW LINE (Distant Early Warning) Radar Station in the East Arctic. White painted crossed planks help distinguish the tower from the beach terrain. The U. S. Coast Guard icebreaker Eastwind delivered cargo and personnel to work on the DEW LINE. At this station several Eskimos living in the vicinity were employed to help complete the station.
