Velisek, formerly financial secretary of the Bohemian National cemetery, has embarked in the retail business and August 1 will open a store at 3511 West Twenty-sixth street. He is equipping his store with a Eandall refrigerator. There are few growers more resource- ful or more successful than Henry E. Youngquist, on Foster, avenue. When he finds a change in the demand he is quick to get on it and he does not hesi- tate to plunge. Last season he made a quick switch from carnations to vege- tables in a part of his range and cleaned up a neat profit. A year or two ago he found a few vincas along the edges of the carnation benches brought a neat sum of extra money, so he increased on vincas until, it is said, this season he produced 60,000. They did not all sell and the average price was low, but they paid him well. At the J. A. Budlong establishment Lady Alice Stanley is pointed to as an especially good summer rose. It is equally good in winter, but does not bloom fast enough to suit most growers who have tried it.
