Cerebral aneurysm repair. Coloured angiogram (blood vessel X-rays) of a stent (red) that has been used to treat an aneurysm of the right carotid artery in a 67-year-old woman. The aneurysm is at a location where the artery reaches the brain, and had resulted in paralysis affecting the third and sixth cranial nerves. An aneurysm is a weakening of the walls of a blood vessel, leading to swelling and rupture. In this artery, such rupturing would be swiftly fatal. The stent has been implanted to strengthen the walls of the artery. These images were taken six months after the implantation of the stent.
