Eternal Fires, natural gas flames in Andreiaşu de Jos, Vrancea, Romania

The widest area with Eternal Fires, considering both the surface and the methane flow, can be found in the Subcarpathians of Vrancea. At Andreiașu de Jos, the area has been declared a natural reservation, since 1973. The flames’ height and intensity vary a lot, sometimes reaching up to 50 cm. This is a region with high seismic risk. During earthquakes, the Living Fires can reach more than 2 meters.
