Apollo 15 exploration, artwork. Apollo 15 astronaut on the Moon, adjusting the high-gain antenna on the lunar rover so that it is pointing towards Earth. Both the Sun and a crescent Earth are seen reflected in the astronaut's visor. A video camera (lower left) is recording footage to be transmitted back to Earth. In the background are part of the Montes Apennines (Apennine Hills). The Apollo 15 mission landed two US astronauts (David Scott and James Irwin) in the Mons Hadley area for nearly three days from 30 July to 2 August 1971. Scott and Irwin carried out three excursions on the surface, collecting 77 kilograms of lunar rocks.
